TALLENT WINS CANBERRA 20 MILE RACEWALK
Dual Olympic Silver medallist and AIS athlete, Jarred Tallent, won the Lake Burley Griuffin 20 mile racewalk in a new course record of 2h14.57s. This is the third year in a row that Jarred Tallent has won the event and will be entitled to claim ownership of it, from now on. In atrocious conditions, he held on to beat Luke Adams who recorded a time of 2h18m49s. Chris Erickson from Victoria and also training at the AIS came third with a new PB for the course and a time of 2h22m47s.
The Womens 10 mile race was won by Jess Rothwell from Victoria in a time of 1h14m33s. She beat Cheryl Webb who finished in a time of 1h16m50s. Both walkers represented Australia last year at the IAAF Racewalking Cup. Third place was Jillian Hosking from Canberra who finished with a time of 1h18h19s. Jillian is representing Australia later on this year at the World University Games.
Over 300 inidividual walkers from every state were present at the Carnival on Sunday for the various events and distances. ACT Racewalking Club President, Mark Worrall was quoted as saying that “Ït was the most successful Carnival in the 43 years that it has been going and the future of the sport is looking very rosy”.
