This year we have had a small mix up with our email notification about the next walk in April, and some of our past walkers did not receive their invitation, so I am re-sending the invitation, together with the February 2009 Newsletter (http://www.aussiewalk.com.au/news.htm). There is still plenty of time to register and receive your early bird discount. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Committee of Canberra Two Day Walk Inc has pleasure in inviting you to come and join in, and enjoy the fun and challenge of the Canberra International Walking Weekend, incorporating the18th Canberra Two Day Medal Walk, on 4 and 5 April 2009. The Canberra International Walking Weekend incorporates the Canberra Two Day Medal Walk and follows the same formula as previous years, including the option of walking a marathon (42.2 km) on Saturday, with a special medal for those who complete this. The requirements for the rewards remain the same – see the website or brochure for full details. There is also a discounted entry fee for one-day walkers. Information and entry forms for this year’s event are available on our website (www.aussiewalk.com.au/entry.htm) and we encourage you to register as soon as possible.
This will ensure you miss the last minute rush and that you receive your walk registration cards before the Walk. Online entry will be available until 20 March 2009. Mail out of registration cards will commence end February and continue until the last mail out on 27 March for out of town addresses and 31 March for ACT and Queanbeyan.). All entries received by 18 March will be entered into a draw for some prizes. (Prize list will be available on the Saturday afternoon.) Training suggestions are also available on our website. The Control Centre, Start and Finish is once again at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, corner of Kings Avenue and Blackall St, BARTON, access from Blackall St. As the event is part of the IML Walking Association, walkers who successfully complete at least the 20 km routes for both days will be able to obtain their IML stamp (and award if applicable).
The event is also sanctioned by the International Volkssport Verband (IVV) as a multi-day event. Information about the IML Walking Association and the IVV and their award systems is available on our website, and also at the Control Centre after the walk each day. A Walkers’ Dinner will be held at 7 for 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm on Saturday 4 April at the Canberra Club at 45 West Row, Canberra City @ $ 35.00 (two course buffet dinner and lucky door prizes). For those wishing to join fellow walkers in this social function, please complete the relevant section of the entry form. Numbers are limited, so tickets will be sold on a “first pay” basis. If you have a group for the dinner, please let us know, so that we can try to reserve a table for you. Otherwise it is free seating, so you can meet other walkers. Please help to promote our walking event by telling other people about it and by forwarding this email to other potential walkers. This year we have also created a new Ambassador Award to reward walkers who introduce a new walker (information in the newsletter).
Please feel free to contact us if you would like us to send you printed brochures or a small poster. An event such as this needs many helpers, so if there are members of your group who are not walking but who would like to help, please let us know – helpers are always welcome. Helpers, please contact Kathleen on ph/fax 02-6288 6401 or by email to email@example.com. We look forward to seeing you taking part in our 2009 event, and enjoying autumn in Canberra. Regards, The Committee, Canberra Two Day Walk Inc
