PM steps up for organ donation walk
A large crowd including Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has turned out for the Terry Connolly Organised Walk around Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra this morning.
The event commemorates the late ACT judge and aims to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation.
Terry Connolly’s wife Helen Watchirs says she hopes the event will prompt more people to become organ donors.
“If people could register but even more important that they talk to their families so that they know what their loved ones’ wishes are and that they are really fulfilling, that even that it’s a very sad time to do that feels good and it really helps other people,” she said.
“In Terry’s case a young woman with a really painful and disabling condition was able to be relieved.”
Editor: It was an excellant crowd this morning close to 800 people. Would have loved to have walked, but was there helping cook breakfast.
